Description: The creation of the Internet has created a revolution in the communication process of the people, because through this, the time and space are no longer an obstacle to interact with people from different countries. This medium has become popular also because one of its most characteristic features is the immediacy: the communication is instantaneous. Within this structure of communication have emerged new interaction tools such as chat, and with it, signs, icons and emoticons, to facilitate the process of understanding. In this context, this research stems from the need of finding the true meaning, evolution and influence of the emoticons in new forms of digital communication, especially the chat, which has become one of the most important communication channels to interact in cyberspace. Emoticons have managed to clarify the dialogue between people in cyberspace and in a peculiar way to show emotions through signs officially accepted by society as the "happy face”. It is important to locate the chats as a collective way of relating with others without conventions and grammar rules; the chat has no similarity to the traditional script, because the argumentation system is more similar to an oral conversation. It features for having a simple content with short sentences to keep the interest and public attention as in an oral conversation. In this way, the speech in a chat is a collective work, fragmentary and vital, that it can be described as the segmented, participatory and 'oral' written records. Finally for best results on the influence of language in chat rooms and specifically with the tool smiley or emotion, an ethnographic research was important for the interpretation closer to reality; this allowed to analyze better the languages that appear in windows chat.
