Residencia Universitaria en la Ciudadela Larrea ciudad de Quito

Abstract

The Larrea citadel is located in the north center of the Metropolitan District of Quito. It can be seen that it is a sector where population density has decreased considerably for different reasons, which can be seen that since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and the new modalities of work, study and housing changed this sector drastically. With the new modalities, problems arise for the inhabitants of this sector, since it is becoming a place that works at different times of the day, affecting shops, public spaces, transportation and most importantly dwelling. One of the main problems that exists in the sector is that abandoned edification can be found, this problem considerably affects the sector due to different factors such as insecurity, commerce and especially housing. Having a low deficit of housing in the Larrea citadel, the sector works on a temporary basis, that is, it complies with a schedule that from eight in the morning you can see a movement of inhabitants passing through the sector until ten eight hours, in which the inhabitants passing through return to their dwellings. To solve the population deficit in the Larrea citadel, what is proposed is to generate spaces for bonding between students from nearby universities and the inhabitants passing through. For this reason, it has been decided to carry out a university residence and a public space (square) that links the immediate existing context of the sector and the new possibilities of commerce that these new inhabitants attract to the sector.
