Description: The present study takes form, based on the need to identify which are the hazards present on the industry and evaluate the risks specifically mechanical risk, during the development of the activities carried out in the initial exploration phase, in a medium-sized company / large-scale metallic and non-metallic resources. The analysis of mechanical risks within the mining industry is the subject of a specific study since, being one of the most recurrent risks during the development of initial exploration activities, it is necessary to apply a methodology that allows the identification and estimation of the risks magnitude. This research project aims to identify the main activities that are developed in the mineral exploration phase in Ecuador, and based on the application of the methodology “NTTP 330 methodology "Simplified method for the evaluation of accident risks", according to the different legal normative and regulations that are valid in Ecuador. The results of this research work allow us to identify the hazards and estimate the mechanical risk factors that represent a higher level of consequences, as well as their level of intervention according to the methodology used, which must be managed, to control the risks that the workers are exposed in this mining phase, mainly are: falls at different levels, falling objects, entrapment of limbs and air accident, since they can become a potential work accident with partial and total permanent disabilities or even fatalities. Therefore, the management of these risks through mitigation and prevention measures are essential to avoid the materialization of unwanted events in the mining industry.
