Description: The present investigation sets out the applicability of multi-criteria analysis methods to select the most appropriate material for the light-duty vehicle side structural segments, so that the potential of these elements in manufacture of body`s car can be determined. Due to the large number`s accidents that occur in our country and the number of injuries and deaths, it is necessary to evaluate the impact conditions that vehicles receive during a collision. Four multi-criteria analysis methods (TOPSIS, COPRAS, VIKOR, PROMETHEE II) are applied to candidate materials, where different optimization criteria are evaluated to determine the efficiency of each one of them, and to establish which is the most appropriate to withstand impact and deformation conditions, obtaining that the martensitic steel YS1200 is the best option. A 3D model corresponding to the side section of the structure with a deformable barrier at 50 km/h according to the IIHS standard is then simulated, which causes a quadrangular element to intrude on the central pillar, affecting the elements adjacent to it. It is obtained that for the materials used the deformation obtained is between 32 to 33 mm, while the impact load is maintained in stable conditions for the transversal elements that are attached to the central pillar, being this the one that receives the greatest amount of stress.
