Description: | This article addresses the issue of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which continue to be the leading cause of death worldwide. The research hypothesis focuses on whether microbial-derived enzymes with thrombolytic and/or fibrinolytic properties can be exploited for the treatment of these diseases. Selective culture media for protease-producing bacteria were used, and assays for gelatinases and caseinases were performed. Non-specific enzymatic activity was measured using the Folin-Ciocalteu method. Subsequently, tests were carried out with blood clots, identifying that B. megaterium and S. liquefaciens exhibit such activities. It is concluded that B. Megaterium is a promising organism for producing enzymes capable of dissolving thrombi |
