Abstract

The present degree project, “Export of Otavalo Ponchos to the Ontario Market, Canada,” is framed within a culturally and internationally significant marketing proposal. On a cultural level, it aims to position Otavalo ponchos as unique expressions of identity and craftsmanship. It is not merely about showcasing the qualitative artisanal differences of a traditional garment entering a new cultural context, but also about educating the residents of Ontario and beyond on its history, creation process, and its deep meaning within an Indigenous society. What sets us apart is our proposal to merge the creativity of emerging Ecuadorian artists with the ancestral expertise of Otavalo weavers to create exclusive pieces of high cultural and aesthetic value. Throughout this plan, we detail our market research, positioning strategies, financial forecasts, and a clear operational roadmap. However, beyond the economic objectives, this project also responds to a meaningful social and cultural purpose: to reactivate the textile industry in Otavalo, generate dignified employment, and preserve ancestral culture which we believe is of great value to our country. It also aims to present to the world a garment that embodies pride, history, and art for Ecuador. That is precisely why our project is not only about selling or exporting a product, but about sharing our story. Each Otavalo poncho that reaches the hands of a consumer in Ontario will serve as a bridge between two cultures, a symbol of identity, and a living testament to our rich craftsmanship.
