Description: The objective of this research is to compare two groups to determine the Locus of Control (LC) of each one. Group A included participants from drug addict ion rehabilitation programs and Group B consisted of participants who use drugs occasionally or recreationally. With this purpose, a nonexperimental, descriptive, comparative study with non designed. The "Rotter Scaprobabilistic convenience sampling was le" Inventory was used to assess the type of LC. Data about sociodemographic characteristics was also obtained, along with information on the type of substance consumed, frequency, age at the time of first consumption, and information about problematic con sumption in parents. The results showed that the LC between Group A and B presented statistically significant differences, being the Internal Locus of Control (LCI) more predominant in people with problematic consumption. Additionally, it was found that Gr oup A and B began drug use at an early age, however, some individuals in Group A began consumption during adulthood. In addition, it was found that the children of parents with problematic consumption are more likely to develop drug addiction. Finally, dru g use differs in both groups, being more frequent in Group B. It is concluded that rehabilitation programs possibly contribute to the development of LCI in individuals. Therefore, it is recommended to know the LC type in the initial stage of treatment. Mor eover, it is essential to work on the LC through psychoeducation, to promote the development of selfcontrol skills, individual/social responsibility, and the prevention of problematic consumption in children, adolescents and young adults.
