Abstract: The Quero River forms part of a large basin that flows through the province of Tungurahua in the Sierra region of Ecuador. Taking into account the anthropic activities of the Quero canton and because it is a municipal district that does not carry out water treatment after its consumption prior to its discharge into the river, the decision has been made to carry out an exploratory, longitudinal investigation. , qualitative, quantitative and comparative, on the quality of the water of the Quero River, before entering, in the populated area and at the end of its course after the populated area. Analyzing the physicochemical and bacteriological components of the water and comparing them with the permissible parameters of the current Ecuadorian regulations. As methods, use is made of: the ICA-NSF Water Quality Index, in addition, hydrochemical analyzes were carried out using the Stiff, Piper and Schoeller diagrams with a study of data on ions. The study was carried out in a temporary space of four months in the year 2021. July, August and September as months of high flow due to abundant rains and October as a month of low flow and the beginning of the dry season. It is concluded that the water quality of the Quero River is found according to the ICA-NSF scale as Regular, it was also shown that in the water of the Quero River there are parameters outside the range of the Ecuadorian regulations that vary according to the sample area, and finally that the variations of the results between a time of high flow and its opposite, present an increase in the polluting parameters, as well as changes in its chemical composition entering the type of mixed bicarbonated waters.
