Abstract: Coffee is one of the most sought-after products worldwide and Ecuador is one of the countries recognized for the quality of export coffee. As is known, many of the crops can have problems due to pest insects that damage the plants, fruits, etc. In this case coffee crops are no exception because it is mainly attacked by the coffee bit (Hypothenemus hampei), affecting the quality of the berries. The biological control of the coffee bit is one of the strategies that have been chosen to avoid the annual damage that occurs by this pest insect, with entomopathogenic fungi. These fungi have a biopesticide activity that when used in different doses can kill the pest insects of interest. That is why it has been raised as a general objective of this study to assess the in vitro effect of the application of entomopathogenic fungi on the pest Hypothenemus hampei for the determination of the control exerted by the selected fungus on the insect. For this, fungi from the northwest of Pichincha were isolated, using rice rags and insects to later obtain axenic crops from fungal colonies and dose them on the specimens of Hypothenemus hampei in a set period. In the results it was possible to observe the death of the insects; however, this was related to the life cycle of the same and not to the effect of the fungi applied, mainly because no statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were found between the control treatment (application of sterile water on insects) and treatments with isolated fungi.
