Percepción sobre la violencia psicológica: estudio comparativo entre hombres y mujeres en relación de pareja

Abstract

Introduction: Violence is considered a public health problem, since it involves different spheres of society. In the case of psychological violence, which although less visible because it does not leave bodily marks, has serious consequences on an emotional and psychological level. The present study is focused on the perception of psychological violence in men and women in a relationship. Materials and methods: A quantitative study was carried out in 122 participants aged between 18 and 25 years. The data were obtained by applying the VEC Scale for the perception of psychological violence in the partner, launched in an open call on social networks. Results: The results indicate that men perceive greater psychological violence in their relationship, the dimensions of jealousy, control, pressure and sexual neglect, harassment and threats present a significant difference. No significant differences were found in age and time of relationship. Conclusion: In the selected sample, it is evidenced that men in a heterosexual relationship perceive greater psychological violence, unlike the national survey that indicates that women are the greatest victims of violence. In addition, it was found that violence occurs in the couple regardless of the age of its members and the length of relationship.
