Description: The implementation of a new medical service in Hospital General Ambato, a blood bank in this case, leads to the creation of written guides or manuals, which are available to the hospital staff and will be the basis for the procedure execution, therefore they’ll be able to take over the problems related to blood components or adverse events that may arise before, during or after the transfusion. This way, health personnel who take part in a blood transfusion, from the patient himself to the technician in charge of the dispatch of blood components, can execute their role, guaranteeing the reliability and safety of the processes carried out. Although the guide could not be put into practice due to the delay in the creation of this new medical unit in the hospital, the draft of the manual for this process remains as a precedent to emphasize the importance in the creation of a transfusion medicine service in benefit of the interests both, the patient and the hospital.
