Abstract: The objective of this research proposal is to investigate the possible association between exposure to formaldehyde and negative health effects in pathological anatomy workers of a health institution in the city of Loja. The study variables are characterizing the sociodemographic conditions (age, sex, occupation, moonlighting), health (acute and long-term effects), employment (seniority, working hours, exposure time, type of working day, use of personal protective equipment), work (handling and inhalation of formaldehyde), tasks of greatest exposure. To achieve this objective, a qualitative, analytical, cross-sectional, non-experimental study is proposed. The information comes from a structured interview, based on validated questionnaires. The results are expected to find a statistically significant positive association between exposure to formaldehyde and health effects. The project is a starting point for further research, and will provide knowledge to stakeholders to develop surveillance plans and risk management systems that are absent, deficient or not implemented. As a qualitative research, it allows for the collection of in-depth data to determine possible causes related to exposure to formaldehyde. Among the implications, it will allow the creation of internal safety and health regulations and norms, it will also generate awareness in local and national organizations that regulate workers in order to opt for policies that will contribute to create healthy work environments. This research will allow obtaining information and data for future quantitative studies.
