Evaluación cuantitativa y plan de gestión de los equipos e instrumentales que contienen mercurio del Hospital Pablo Arturo Suarez

Abstract

El mercurio es un metal tóxico y peligroso debido a sus características físico-químicas, las mismas que le dan propiedades extraordinarias para ser utilizado como componente principal de varios productos y procesos. El Hospital Pablo Arturo Suárez utiliza productos que contienen mercurio, motivo por el cual se quiso elaborar un inventario detallado de los equipos e instrumentales que contienen mercurio y un plan de gestión para los mismos, aplicable durante su uso y manejo de sus desechos dentro del hospital. El inventario levantado permitió identificar que los instrumentales que contienen mercurio son los termómetros y tensiómetros, y al cuantificar la cantidad de metal contenido en los mismos, se obtuvieron resultados altos considerando que pequeñas cantidades de mercurio pueden producir efectos contraproducentes en la salud y el ambiente. Al no existir en el hospital un plan de gestión aplicable para los instrumentales identificados en el inventario, se elaboró uno que contiene medidas de control y reducción de la contaminación en actividades que implican el uso de los instrumentales, así como en el manejo del mercurio y de los desechos que lo contienen. La implementación en el hospital del plan de gestión descrito ayudará al manejo adecuado de los desechos que contienen mercurio y a que el hospital cumpla con la responsabilidad social de no disponerlos inadecuadamente como se lo esta haciendo en la actualidad.

The implementation in the hospital of the described management plan will help in the proper management of waste that contains mercury and to the hospital to comply with social responsibility of not disposing them inappropriately as it is doing now.
