Chiriboga, a rural area of Ecuador, has an inadequate management of solid waste, where the population of around 300 people burn or deposit their waste in streams and rivers. To obtain a description of the families and the current management of solid waste in Chiriboga, surveys were carried out of its inhabitants. There were also eight visits to the site to determine and quantify the current production of solid waste and determine per capita production, physical composition and total generation of the site. Chiriboga has a per capita production of 0.19 kg, that is, it generates 57. 68 kg of solid waste daily, where only 38.4% is organic matter. The model presented, for proper management, is based on management self-management by the site and the active participation of the population in the management. It also includes education, composting, separation and recycling programs. For a secure final disposal with minimal impacts, the construction of single-family and multifamily sanitary pits is proposed. |
