Abstract: Objectives: Hearing loss caused by noise exposure represents one of the most reported occupational hazards worldwide. This article provides a summary of the pathophysiology of noise, showing how it can affect the different organs comprising the auditory system and also mention certain conditions that can produce different levels of hearing loss. Finally, this review will include some recommendations to consider when performing hearing tests; in addition to certain improvements that can be implemented at the workplace Method: The study carried out consisted of a systematic review in the electronic resources of PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar that contain topics related to noise, exposure, as well as causative factors and recommendations on hearing loss. Results: From the total articles that were retrieved, only the material that contained information from studies related to the effect of noise in which they used variables such as: gender or age were reviewed. Likewise, studies that show the pathophysiology of noise and depending on its properties, how some type of trauma can be produced were also reviewed. Conclusion: It is important to take into account how the perception of noise works, and its properties because it can damage the human body, not only in a sensorineural way. Likewise, when performing hearing evaluations, there are some variables that with the current technology cannot be assessed, so it is necessary to identify the best way to treat noise exposure from an early stage and avoid irreversible problems in the future
