Abstract: In the present investigation, an evaluation of the filtration efficiency was carried out with three different materials for the filter of the VMO V2 mask using the porous medium method against SARS-CoV-2. For which a redesign of the initial mask was carried out considering the anthropometric measurements to better visualize the behavior of the fluid with the person, then the properties of the three materials to be used in the mask filter, the properties of the fluid and simulation conditions according to NIOSH N95 standard. The fluid simulation was carried out using the porous medium method using CAE software. The filtration efficiencies obtained from the CFD simulation results were: 78% for polypropylene, 67% for cotton and 54% for polyurethane foam. With the results obtained, it was found that the filtration efficiency depends on the type of material used in the mask filter, verifying that the best option to combat the spread of SARS-CoV-2 is the polypropylene filter.
