Abstract: The present work describes the design and manufacture of an adaptable device in sedan-type traction vehicles for changing gears, it is focused on people who have disabilities of the right arm and / or hand; the prototype allows to carry out the gear change in an automated way. For the development of the proposed design, ergonomic data present in driving were considered, such as the posture adopted while driving, the position of the hand and the type of grip on the steering wheel; Once these parameters were established, the angles formed in both the shoulder and the elbow were determined, these being of great importance due to their influence on fatigue of the upper limb during driving. The study shows that a large percentage of drivers adopt an upright posture when driving the vehicle, in the same way when driving the vehicle with one hand, the steering wheel is held in a medium position because this position allows turning the steering wheel with freedom and security. The steering wheel was held using the cylindrical palmar grip type, which consists of holding the steering wheel with the four fingers and the palm of the hand, leaving the thumb free to operate the control knobs. On the other hand, it was determined that the position adopted when driving can depend on several factors such as sex, age, height, type of vehicle and driving time. These have a direct influence on the body angles, thus determining a comfortable position or not for driving. The creation of the device allows people with disabilities to be inserted into the driving society, thus making their way of transportation and mobility easier.
