Abstract: The purpose of this research project is to optimize the transport of 2,200 tons of waste and solid waste in the city of Quito, which are stored daily in the two municipal transfer stations, located in the north and south of the city, for later be transported to the sanitary landfill, located in the INGA sector, for final disposal. The Metropolitan Solid Waste Management Company EMGIRS EP oversees these two phases of management (transportation and final disposal), for which it performs 24-hour operation 7 days a week, generating 3300 tons of Co2 per year. The continuous operation of the fleet and the lack of preventive maintenance produces permanent damage and complex repair, causing non-compliance with the daily transport goal, generating a prolonged storage of urban solid waste in the transfer stations, forming bad odors and vector proliferation. To carry out an optimization proposal, data was collected using the descriptive method, based on the gathering of primary information: hours of operation, distance from transfer stations to the sanitary landfill, number of fleets for transportation and operating costs. After the analysis and creation of the mathematical model, with the support of the LINDO software, the best time distribution of the fleet was identified according to the needs of the EMGIRS EP, saving 34 trips a day to the current procedure, as well as the times necessary for the development of preventive and corrective maintenance to the entire fleet, generating a trend of 830 tons less Co2 emissions.
