Abstract: The development of new phase change materials that act at low temperatures is important to facilitate their use in product transport and storage containers. Knowing that vegetable oils provide good properties for this purpose, the oil from avocado seed was studied using Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Infrared Spectrometry and Thermogravimetry to determine its properties and classify it as a material of exchange of phase. With the properties obtained from the tests carried out, a simulation was processed in the Solidworks program to know the difference between using or not using the PCM in an isothermal box used both for the transport or storage of products at low temperatures. The analyzes are found at different oil compositions according to the ripening point of the seeds; the product corresponding to the mature seeds being taken into consideration for the simulation. The results produced mainly by the DSC give us an enthalpy of fusion of 52.93 J / g, for Thermogravimetry it is had that the temperatures of 308.52 ° C and 441.43 ° C give the beginning and end of the degradation of the oil under the temperature of nitrogen correspondingly and at 240.21 ° C and 545.3 ° C the initial and final degradation temperatures are given with an air atmosphere, which shows that the oil can be used for low temperatures, the FTIR test indicates the functional groups of the that the oil is formed and its chemical stability. The simulation showed that the oil could work as a PCM at low temperatures, comparing its use in the PPE insulated box, with the result that without the PCM, the air inside the box reaches an average of -8.17 ° C and - 11.8 ° C with the PCM after 7 hours, taking into account an initial temperature of the box of -14 ° C and an ambient temperature of 25 ° C and the initial temperature of the PCM of -23 ° C.
