Abstract

The Floating Housing Project located in the province of Los Ríos is a response to the problems detected by the low building conditions presented by the houses located on the Babahoyo river and the need to preserve their culture and heritage that over time it has disappeared The informality that floating homes currently present have the presence of different problems of different kinds, such as: urban, constructive, social, economic and ecological, which, through different strategies, will be solved to create a housing module for a social character that can meet the requirements of a home with optimal living conditions. The project includes an urban integration area located on the river banks and an organized housing area on the Babahoyo River. The design considers the contextual aspects and is the product of the needs found in the area. The sensitivity to respect the current coexistence of the habitants to the context and the natural edge have been considered in the design of urban areas and the organization of housing. The design of the houses is proposed applying the model of progressive housing and minimum housing for the expansion of the housing modules, to create a growth dynamic according to the needs of the users. The minimum housing area is 50m2 and the maximum area is 100m2. The construction system and materiality have been intervened as little as possible so that users can self-sustain the construction as is currently the case. The floating structure responds to the basic principles of buoyancy.
