Abstract: En la amazonia ecuatoriana se encuentran 4 especies de caimán: el Caimán Negro (Melanosuchus niger), el Caimán Blanco (Caiman crocodilus crocodilus Linnaeus, 1758), el Babo Morichalero o Yacaré (Paleosuchus palpebrosus) y el Cachire (Paleosuchus trigonatus). En la Lista Roja de Reptiles del Ecuador (elaborada por la UICN, 2008), Melanosuchus niger, se encuentra en estado de peligro (EN). En la Laguna de Limoncocha se encuentra al al caimán negro Melanosuchus niger. (Lasso, 1998; Endara, 1999; Ron et al, 1999). Actualmente, la supervivencia de caimanes, está relacionada con la incursión de las empresas petroleras, que están asentadas ya más de 15 años en las selvas del Oriente ecuatoriano (Vallejo, 2004). Es por esto que las poblaciones de caimanes, se encuentran actualmente en peligro.
In the Ecuadorian Amazon there are 4 species of alligator: the Black Cayman (Melanosuchus niger), the White Caiman (Caiman crocodilus crocodilus Linnaeus, 1758), the Babo Morichalero or Yacaré (Paleosuchus palpebrosus) and the Cachire (Paleosuchus trigonatus). In the Red List of Reptiles of Ecuador (elaborated by the IUCN, 2008), Melanosuchus niger, is in a state of danger (EN). In the Limoncocha Lagoon is the black alligator Melanosuchus niger. (Lasso, 1998; Endara, 1999; Ron et al, 1999). Currently, the survival of alligators is related to the incursion of oil companies, which have been settled for more than 15 years in the jungles of Ecuadorian East (Vallejo, 2004). This is why the populations of alligators, they are currently in danger.
