Borde urbano como territorio articulador: Parque Deportivo La Tola

Abstract

This project proposes a sports urban facility, located on the natural border that limits La Tola neighborhood. This is a context with a historical vocation towards boxing, since the first gym specialized in this sport in the city of Quito was created here. In this way, it seeks to solve the lack of public spaces for the practice of sport and recreation, and, in addition, revaluing a historical vocation. The project aims to take advantage of the double condition of the urban edge, on the one hand, the separation of different urban pieces, contributing to the readability and creation of an identity of each one of them; and, on the other hand, as a potential articulation territory and meeting place, ideal for the siting of urban facilities and other public uses. The strategy used seeks to benefit from the singularities of the urban context, as well as from the natural conditions, to grant the relevance that public activities such as sports require, and at the same time allowing for an integrated reading in context, that ability to go unnoticed to be the stage where life happens.
