Diseño del borde de la plaza en La Tola de San Juan capilla en Otavalo y su relación con los medios de vida

Abstract

The city of Otavalo is characterized like a city full of culture and ancestral traditions. It is also characterized by the activities of the Otavalan inhabitants such as the textile industry and agricultural production; as is the case of the inhabitants of the indigenous community of San Juan Capilla, who have deep-rooted the culture, field work and work from their ancestors, in order to maintain the Kwicha identity. That is why the community members of the San Juan neighborhood, together with the Otavalo municipality and the managers of the neighborhood, have worked for the construction of the intercultural square community that have the same name as the neighborhood: San Juan Capilla square. This square is an icon that reflects its identity and is currently considered one of the sacred sites for the natives of Otavalo and the Imbaura province. The square was built and inaugurated in 2018, the most important and representative festivities for native people are realized there. The the Inty Raymi parties are realized for 4 times a year and the participants, own and strangers congregate on this site to participate in these ceremonies. Just as in the Andean festivities a big number of people come together, this research focuses mainly on knowing what happens in the square San Juan during the rest of the year, what activities are carried out on this site and what project strategies can be implemented to activate the square . For that, this research propose a need plan has been carried out, which has been determined through surveys and interviews conducted in the sector to carry out an architectural project that meets the needs of the community members in relation to the livelihoods that the inhabitants possess from the San Juan Capilla neighborhood.
