Description: An investigative study was carried out to evaluate the ergonomic risk level by manual lifting of plastic bags with coins (nickel), at one of Banco Pichincha´s Agency, specifically at Punto Pago Cotocollao. The study started by determining the number of plastic bags with a thousand units (coins), received each day and the number of lifts for each one. It receives on average 50 to 60 bags daily whose weights vary between 2.5 kg and 11.34 kg depending on their denomination. All nickel bags received daily, are mostly obtained from a coin counting machine which works as a depositary and from client service hatch. The potential customers, users of this machine who have greater frequency and amount of deposit are: gas stations, markets, churches, bus cooperatives, commercial stores in the Cotocollao area. This activity is carried out by 2 executives of transactional services in charge of vault, who turns their activities for handling nickel and paper money (dollar bills), passing a day, avoiding overburden only one collaborator with the activity of manual lifting of nickel bags. To move the nickel bags from the depositary to the vault, a little car is used in which up to 15 nickel bags can be transported, so it is necessary to make up to 4 trips to the vault daily. The present study only evaluates the ergonomic risk due to manual lifting of nickel and although the risk of pushing loads and forced postures is present, it is recommended to carry out this type of studies in the future, in order to improve the conditions of this job. A lifting table began to be used, which reduced the number of liftings from 4 to 2, reducing the fatigue perceived by the collaborators, but not the variable lifting rate resulting from the application of the NIOSH Variable Method in the ERGO IBV software, this was maintained at a value of 3.40, giving as a reference an unacceptable level of risk, both for the lifts carried out of an average and a critical remittance.
