Description: Public spaces that integrate social groups are currently an endangered species of urban habitat. The Open Markets that occupy public spaces in Sangolquí are often seen as a negative form of occupation. Actual urban plans propose the open market to be relocated in order to rescue the historical downtown. However, this commercial activity exists where it is for a reason, society calls for it and needs it, without trade the community dies and loses its livelihood. The apparent "chaos" of the open market provides a hotspot of social relations, rich in opportunities to meet, to be known, to buy and to have a leisure walk with the family. Local public space in Sangolquí is changed, the place that provides services and public life to the community is now the street, the commercial street, and the pedestrian street, because it is the only thing left. The following paper analyzes the current urban situation of the historic center of Sangolquí along with the occurrence of the Open Market in the streets. The objective is to look at the problem from a multifunctional and multi-scale perspective, therefore, propose a urban and architectural solution that integrates the contextual reality, the needs of the identified actor network, co-participation form the private and public sectors, and finally promote social cohesion
