Description: | Introduction: Literature suggests that the levels of fantasy and perspective (dimensions of empathy) of psychologists may vary over time in their professional lives. The objective of this study was to evaluate the levels of these two dimensions in relation to the years of experience reported by professional psychologists. Materials and methods: A cross- sectional, correlational study was carried out. The sample (N= 46, 38 women and 8 men, between the ages of 22 and 60) consists of professionals with a university degree in psichology. The statistical program IBM SPSS Statistics 25 was used for the analysis. Results: A high inverse correlation (rs = -0,79, p < .01) was observed between fantasy and years of experience reported by psychologists. Similar to the results of other studies, women reported higher levels of fantasy compared to men. Conclusion: The results suggest that over the years the psychologist becomes less flexible to innovate his knowledge. However, the ability to understand the experiences of their patients would remain stable. |
