Description: In this investigation (research) project we will be evaluating the thermal and mechanical tests of the most commonly used materials to built walls and floors -concrete and oak- in the Costa Region: Manabí and El Oro, and the Andes Region: Loja. Through this study, three mechanical forces tests will be carried out: Traction test, Flexion test, and Compression test; and Thermal Conductivity test, Moisture Content test (MC); applying American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) norms, Norms European (UNE), Norms International Standarization Organization (ISO), Norms Mexican, Norms Chilean, Norms Ecuadorian Standardization Institute (INEN). In Ecuador it is necessary to make a preliminary study to introduce regulations focused on habitability and energy efficiency and to bring on some new strategies to improve the use of energy, guaranteeing optimal conditions inside the house without requiring air-conditioned systems. A study of the different behaviours of the materials in varied regions of the country is made. This can be very beneficial to reduce energy consumption, optimizing environmental conditions. The solution in this growth in urban development and the demand for housing is to improve the living conditions and energy consumption, promoting new regulations and policies that impulse construction, assuring thermal comfort. With this in mind, surveys are presented in International Standards, International Institutes of Technology, research papers and scientific articles, which have an analogy with this project.
