The wastes from the hydrocarbon activity have been since its inception located in swimming pools, this waste consists mainly of debris and drilling mud and sometimes crude oil from the tests of production, which after more than 20 years of being housed in the different pools and exposed to the middle became raw asphalt. After the departure of TEXACO at the beginning of the 90s, these pools remained open for use by the new operator PETROECUADOR. TEXACO, operator of the ex-CEPE-TEXACO consortium (after PETROECUADOR-TEXACO), assumed the responsibility of closing said pools, and for this the project RAPTOR (Remediation Action) was executed Project Texaco Oriente) in order to remedy the contaminated lands by hydrocarbons and drilling mud and leave the pools closed and revegetated. Within the RAPTOR project, several methodologies were used, among others: encapsulation with SILICA®, the separation with the so-called surfactant PECS, stabilization with cement and ditching inside the pool itself. Additionally, as a complement to the investigation, data of another method used with singular success in the RAE, which consists of the bioremediation with molasses. The investigation was carried out in two stages: a first one of field whose objective was to understand the different treatment processes and the second of cabinet in which laboratory analyzes were carried out that allowed to define the advances of the treatments through comparing the oil content and fats for different periods of time. The conclusion reached after the analysis of results is that the method combined stabilization with cement, ditching and encapsulation is the more efficient, this was illustrated by graphs. Bioremediation with molasses is a method of treatment that should be studied thoroughly so that the frequency of use is increased given its efficiency and low cost. |
