The present study establishes the water quality "during" and "after" the seismic prospecting operation on the Capirón River located in Block 16 of Repsol - YPF, by the presence or absence of macroinvertebrates Benthic To fulfill this objective, a biomonitoring was performed in months of November and December of 2000 (phase before the operation) hydrocarbon), January and February 2001 (during) and March and April of 2001 (after). To analyze the obtained samples, three were obtained biotic indexes known as: BMWPA modified for the tropics South American and FBI (Biotic Family Index) to determine the quality of water and the presence of organic pollution and the IVT (Value Index Trophic) to establish the trophic status of it. From the results concluded that there is an increase in organic contamination during the seismic prospecting, pollution that goes down, after this phase, even reaching the initial values. This is due to the high capacity of self-regeneration of the ecosystem and other factors, such as precipitation pluvial. The study has important data that serve for biomonitoring to long term.
