This project was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of the use of cement and hydrated lime for the retention of the contaminants (Nickel and Vanadium) found in the used catalyst. It aimed to achieve a safe disposal of the used catalyst, from the Esmeraldas State Refinery through chemical inertization, this was achieved by means of an analysis of the chemical composition of the catalyst before and after after treatment by inertization. Catalysts are used in petrochemical processes such as disintegration or cracking. With the time of use the activity of a catalyst tends to diminish, therefore spent catalysts of the oil refineries are a serious industrial problem since they possess heavy metals especially Nickel and Vanadium. In order to reduce the doses of Nickel and Vanadium found in the catalyst, the technology of stabilization / solidification (E / S) of waste was used, which is a process to reduce the dangerousness of these, forming a monolithic material that allows Restricting the surface area exposed to the agents of the environment. The waste I / O using Portland cement, or hydrated lime is based on two aspects, one is the physical encapsulation by the fixation of the contaminants on the surface, on the other hand, a chemical fixation is presented.
