Description: The predominant imaginary dealing with national Ballet is understood as a scenario of expression and representation of homosexual masculinities; due to the fact that this art is often perceived as “feminine” because of the scenic language that it communicates. In this realm, it is important to question the construction that exists around this notion, comprehending “feminine” and “masculine” as representation phenomena, which are legitimized by gender discourses and cultural assimilations. These ought to be analyzed from inner (male dancers) and outer (audience) perspectives. Dancers are understood as representation “characters” and the audience as validating references. In this context, the present investigation constitutes an approach to the construction of masculine identity within Ballet, to the categories and definitions that allow the theoretic conceptualization of this impasse. Additionally, a summary of the history of Ballet and its consequences in our times is presented; as well as an approach to this space and its dominating gender discourses at a local level. It is also analyzed the discourses and practices around the understandings of masculinity that are promoted and rejected within Ballet; as well as their current consequences and their relation with xenophobia mindsets. Furthermore, the notions of masculine and virility are contrasted from the perspective of the male dancers as well as the male audiences.
