Description: Cybercrime has become a global phenomenon driven by the advancement of digital technologies, affecting various sectors and online users. The objective of this study was to analyze recent scientific production on cybercrime in the virtual age, identifying theoretical approaches, types of crimes, areas of application, and emerging trends. To this end, a scope review of research published between 2021 and 2026 in academic databases was conducted, organizing the information into thematic matrices. The results show that the main cybercrimes are phishing, financial fraud, ransomware, romance scams, cyberbullying, and cryptocurrency crimes. An interdisciplinary approach is observed, integrating criminology, law, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, with qualitative, quantitative, and computational methodologies. These crimes occur on social networks, dating applications, investment platforms, blockchain, and critical infrastructure. Key trends include the professionalization of crime, the use of artificial intelligence and deepfakes, and the convergence of multiple crimes against a single victim. It is concluded that cybercrime is a dynamic phenomenon that exceeds the capacity of institutions to respond. In Ecuador, although the Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP) exists as a legal framework, limitations are evident in the face of new forms of crime, as well as high vulnerability and low effectiveness of sanctions, which necessitates strengthening regulations, institutional capacity, and preventive strategies.
