- The subject of this research project is to study about the uses and gratifications of the institutional magazine UMBRAL in the student population of the International University SEK. The objectives of the study focus on knowing which are the uses and gratifications that the students have to read the magazine UMBRAL and analyze why of this results. For this qualitative and quantitative approach was used. The practical implementation of the proposal consists of performing a morphological analysis and the content of six magazine UMBRAL chosen according to criteria; the analysis reporting format of the same issues; the comparative analysis between the magazine UMBRAL and the magazine AULA MAGNA of the University San Francisco of Quito; and the implementation of 271 surveys in the nine faculties of the UISEK. One of the most important findings of this study showed disinterest with students for reading this communication product. 1
