The present research work aims at the comparative analysis of the theories of Jean Piaget in the Preoperational stage and of Erik Erikson in the Initiative phase vs. Blame with the objective of documenting them and establishing the importance of respecting the natural process of development. Through the description of the same and the theories, the processes and changes that occur during early childhood were analyzed, which guarantee the adequate adaptation of the individual to systems outside the family nucleus, that is to say to schooling and therefore to society. From the analysis it can be concluded that J. Piaget and E. Erikson, were interested in the importance of child development, structured their theories with different positions and in different areas. Piaget's tendency towards the study of cognitive processes led him to base his theory on the reasoning ability acquired by children. For his part, Erikson was concerned with those processes that go beyond cognition and are related to motivations and internal conflicts of the individual. That is why, despite the theoretical discrepancies, the present work provides a broader spectrum regarding early childhood development. It emphasizes the importance that cognitive and social development go hand in hand to generate meaningful learning and adequate competences for the proactive participation of children in society. It represents a contribution for parents and professionals of health and education to adopt a more integral position regarding development, which allows and guarantees the well-being and adaptation of children through appropriate practices and standards for their development.-
