The distribution and abundance of organisms are a fundamental tool to know the interactions between species and their environment. This project allows to know and evaluate the current state of the Limoncocha Biological Reserve. This study is the basis for obtaining data on distribution and abundance of individuals of morete. The use of these data to estimate the degree of alteration caused by the human population, the environmental pressure induced by the expansion, exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons, overexploitation of forest resources, the degree of knowledge in ethnobotany and the concretion of future research and conservation strategies. This project intends to initiate a series of investigations for this species (Mauritia flexuosa) as it is a species vulnerable to anthropic intervention; for its contribution of nutrients to the soil; for being the sustenance of mammal species that inhabit the wetlands and for fulfilling functions as a nesting, spawning and reproduction site for birds, fish and crustaceans in the transition zone between submerged lands and the mainland. The study carried out in the Limoncocha Biological Reserve was carried out with the purpose of obtaining data on the distribution and abundance of Mauritia flexuosa (Arecaceae), and in this way with the preliminary data recorded, creating a database with records demographic of its population within the Reserve, establish the degree of impact that human activities represent in the surroundings as well as in the interior, in order to have a reference of the transformation that occurred in the Reserve. Through surveys to the residents of the Limoncocha parish, in order to obtain testimonies of ethnobotanical knowledge, identify the distribution preferences of Mauritia flexuosa individuals in the surroundings of the reserve. The lack of studies related to the subject made it difficult to establish comparisons to know the current status of the reserve and especially of the swamp areas. It established 9 lineal transects of 20m x 5m located in a random way within the accessible limits of the Reserve. The data collected in the field were treated by statistical analysis of ANOVA and UPGMA, based on these analyzes determine more precisely the sites with greater preference of the more. In the evaluation carried out with ANOVA, it was not possible to identify and decide the preference of Mauritia flexuosa for one of the three cataloged zones of Disturbance (High, Medium and Low Disturbance), which suggests that for a future study more transects or areas of these are larger. Likewise, by using binary matrices, analyzes with Dendrograms were carried out. For the interpretation of the Dendrograms, a distinction was made between individuals in the seedlings and individuals in adult stage; for being both stages the most representative of the registry carried out in the field. Likewise, for the purpose of statistical analysis, a total matrix was made in which the four stages identified in the study were included by the nine transects. It was concluded that Mauritia flexuosa is a palm that is distributed in marshy areas not disturbed mainly by the results obtained in seedlings and adults. It is a species that needs more research because it is considered a key organism within the tropical forest.
