In the present study, two methods (coagulation / flocculation and filtration) were tested to achieve the removal of suspended solids in the residual liquid effluents of the AIQUISA African palm oil extractor, and in this way reduce the organic load that reaches the oxidation lagoons, optimizing the existing treatment and at the same time reducing the values of the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), attributed mainly to the total solids and suspended solids generated in the different extraction processes of the palm oil In the first place, the physical - chemical characterization of the effluent was carried out, to subsequently carry out the different treatability tests, in which varying all the possible parameters (pH, temperature, concentration of chemicals, agitation time, etc.) to achieve more favorable conditions in the removal of total suspended solids, both in the coagulation / flocculation and filtration tests. Coagulation / flocculation is not an appropriate system for the treatment of this effluent type, since satisfactory results were not obtained, unlike the filtration system where an 88% removal of total suspended solids is achieved through the use of a filter press. whose operational characteristics are described in the current work, and the resulting filter cake is also used for agricultural purposes.
