Description: Water provision to the population of the Metropolitan District of Quito is a fundamental axis in the public management of the city, so it requires periodic monitoring of its supply sources. Salve Faccha dam is an important catchment point, located at 3 900 m a.s.l. in an old volcanic caldera. It presents hydrothermal upwelling that can influence the chemistry of the dam. To identify these dynamics, monthly sampling of the water column of the reservoir, the mixtures of the tributaries and the upwelling of their surroundings had been carried out. The parameters temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity and pH have been measured in situ and the major ions Cl-, SO4 2-, CO32-, HCO3 -, Na+, K+, Ca 2+, Mg 2+ and S2- have been analyzed. The statistical and hydrogeochemical tools allowed the categorization of the underground, superficial and subsurface water present in the system and analyze its temporal and space variations
