The purpose of this investigation is to determine the necessary characteristics of the PVC and HDPE polymeric membrane, among which its good physical, thermal, low cost and high weather resistance. The benefits of the study lie in the use of membranes not only in civil engineering, but also in demonstrating the mechanical behaviors of PVC and HDPE geomembranes of 1mm and 1.5 to achieve a comparison between them and determine the different efforts they support and in turn Check its usefulness in other areas of engineering. The results obtained from two PVC and HDPE membranes are compared in two different thicknesses, considering controllable variables such as tension, elongation at break, working temperature among others. These tests are subject to ASTM standards which are compared to determine the membrane with the best properties to be used in the automotive field. Then, the comparison is obtained as a result that the HDPE 1500 membrane has a tear strength 142.33 N with extension 47.70 mm and a tear strength of 11.53 MPA, the HDPE 1000 membrane has a tear resistance 102.58 N, with extension 50.11 mm and a tear strength of 11.93 MPA, the PVC 1500 membrane has a tear resistance 77.33 N with a 33.49 mm extension and a tear resistance of 10.06 MPA, the PVC 1000 membrane has a tear resistance 55.83 N , extension 34.20 mm and a breaking strength of 9.41 MPA. From the data before determining, it is concluded that PVC membranes withstand less force than those of HDPE, but when compared with those of traditional plastic they definitely retain many important characteristics giving a higher safety factor than ABS so they can be Used in different branches and applicationses
