Description: Water is one of the most important environmental services for human beings, since it is an indispensable source for life, Quito has 39 water purification plants, among which are the Bellavista and Puengasí treatment plants. The Bellavista treatment plant receives water from the sources collected from Papallacta, Río Blanco, Tumiguina, Salve Facha and supplies Quito Norte, including Cumbayá, Itchimbia, Bellavista, Collaloma; the maximum treatment flow of this plant is 3000 L/s. The treatment plant of Puengasí receives water from the sources captured from the Pita River that comes from the Cotopaxi volcano and the Mica, this treatment plant supplies Quito Sur including Monjas, Los Pinos, Bellavista, Chiriyacu, South West and El Placer; The maximum treatment flow of this plant is 2400 L/s. In the process of treating raw water for its purification, it is necessary to use chemicals such as aluminum sulphate and polymers to reduce the turbidity and solids that the current has been dragging. The most commonly discarded residues in the purification process are effluents with sedimentable solids and aluminum. The effluents generated in these plants are discharged to the sewage system, after characterizing them together with the sedimentary sludge, it is considered if the sludge from the drinking water treatment plant complies with the Ecuadorian regulation of sewer discharge and discharge to a receiving body. The inertisation of Sedimentable sludge from the lagoons was done by the addition of construction lime, to reduce contaminants present in the collected samples. Finally, the current Mexican regulations regarding solids and biosolids were analyzed to know the use in which to classify the inert sludge from the Bellavista and Puengasí treatment plants by dehydrating and adding Cal. It was observed that the construction witn Calcium Hydroxide Ca (OH)2, is apt to reduce contaminants, the addition of 50% of Calcium Hydroxide in the sedimentable sludge (at 20% humidity) decreased the biological contaminants, classifying it according to Mexican regulations regarding microorganisms such as type A sludge and with respect to At the concentration of heavy metals inert mud has a high concentration of arsenic for such reason does not enter any of the classes of biosolids.
