Description: This research presents the study of reverse engineering and three-dimensional printing as an alternative in the design of automotive parts, taking as a case study the distribution cover of the Chevrolet Spark 2015 car. For this, a 3D scanner "Scanner Handy Scan" is used to capture the shape and characteristics of the distribution cover, and obtain a three-dimensional mesh for analysis, this cloud of points obtained is processed by using the software "Geomagic Desing" to obtain the three-dimensional CAD model; this model is imported into the Siemens NX software to make dimensional adjustments through a comparative analysis between the built CAD model and the copied element, to perform prototyping by means of 3D printing. Finally, we obtain as results, a prototype of the Spark 2015 Distribution Cover with the respective assessment of its mechanical properties, and an analysis of the feasibility level of this manufacturing process in the manufacture of automotive parts by 3D printing "FDM"
