The work environment is occupied by workers from various age groups exposed to different hazards, especially mechanical ones; each group of workers with strengths and limitations specific to their age, training, type of activity, etc. Therefore the present study aims to identify the differences in the distribution of mechanical safety hazards that can rise work accidents between young workers and adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The population is made up of 1790 salaried workers with a dependency ratio since 18 years of age, interviewed through the application of the First Survey on Health and Safety Conditions, divided into 4 groups: young people (18 to 24 years old); young adults (25 to 29 years old); adults (30 to 54 years old) and; older workers (55 and older). The statistical analysis consisted in the calculation of prevalence for each variable and comparison of the mechanical risk through estimation of the relative risk and its corresponding confidence interval (RR: 95%CI) between the age categories, the statistical program IBM SPSS Statics 24 was used. RESULTS: The main hazards to which the surveyed workers declare to be exposed: blows, falling at the same level (27%), cuts (27%), falling objects (22.1%), and the comparison with exposure to hazards due to mechanical safety hazards according to age groups, it is observed that young adults between 25 and 29 years of age have a greater perception of risks and the consequent exposure to hazards with respect to the rest of age groups, especially to fall to the same level (33%) followed by the risk of hits (30.1%), cuts 29.8% and falling objects 23.3%.KEYWORDS: Workers, work accidents, mechanical risk, exposure to hazards, perception of risks.es
