The eutrophication of a body of water is a process of massive growth of algae and aquatic macrophytes that reduce the concentration of dissolved oxygen in water. East phenomenon that may have a natural origin, is significantly increased by the contribution of nutrients of anthropogenic origin. To determine the trophic status of the lagoon of Límoncocha, measurements of the total phosphorus content in the water of 6 points in the lagoon and in two additional points corresponding to the two main tributaries (river Pishira and river Playayacu) that has the lagoon. The results show average values of total phosphorus of 75 mg / m3 for the lagoon, of 144 mg / m3 for the Playayacu River and 56 mg / m3 for the Pishira River. These values are compared with the data of the state classification system trophic for total phosphorus (Salas index, Martinó 1990). According to this, the Laguna de Límoncocha is in a mesotrophic state.
