The purpose of this paper is to determine if there have been changes in the physicochemical properties of the water of the water bodies that are found within the area of influence of a seismic prospecting project. The monitoring is performed before, during and after the seismic survey activity in a period of six months. Five sampling points were selected. The results of the analysis showed high values of barium concentration at all points, and low values of BOD and COD. The waters have an approximately neutral pH. The average values of the data obtained were compared with the values permissible maximums that appear in the Regulation to the Law of Prevention and Control of the Environmental Pollution in relation to the Water Resource created by the Ministry of Health in the year of 1989 (Article 19). This comparison allowed establish the quality index of the water bodies studied; as a result obtained that the water of the Piranha and Tiputini rivers (in its two points) are good quality since the values of IC A are located around 0. The Capirón River and the estuary presented values greater than 1, which indicated that the water is not of good quality, because the values of barium and phenols exceeded the maximum allowable the regulations to which reference is made. However, the current status of water in those points was not caused by the project activities. In conclusion, the results show that the activities carried out in a prospecting project seismic causes do not cause any serious alteration on the water bodies of the influence of this activity. |
