Abstract: El Santuario de Guápulo, ha significado a través de la historia, un verdadero monumento a la fe de los quiteños, no solo por la veneración a Nuestra Virgen de Guadalupe, sino también por la memoria de aquellos milagros que aún tienen encendida la luz de la esperanza de todos los creyentes; y que en sus lienzos y esculturas han dejado plasmados los episodios de la historia, huella imborrable de artistas de la época como Diego de Robles; Luis de Rivera; Miguel de Santiago junto con Nicolás Javier Goribar, son los autores de los espléndidos lienzos del Santuario; Juan Bautista Menacho, quien esculpió los retablos y el pulpito; gracias a todos estos artistas, dio como resultado el máximo exponente del arte quiteño. Esta obra maestra fue construida alrededor de 1644, por el arquitecto Franciscano Antonio Rodríguez, es una de las más valiosas joyas artísticas quiteñas del siglo XVII. Empezando por admirar su plaza donde deja verse una cruz latina perfecta,todo el cuerpo del Santuario es formado de una sola l nave abovedada, su fachada , altos relieves que revelan imágenes religiosas; al interior sus retablos, lienzos, y toda su efervescencia estética; que junto con la historia que guarda celosamente el Santuario, se impone en este pueblo una perfecta armonía. Guápulo es un recodo que descansa a las faldas laderosas de una colina, sirviendo de mirador al panorama de oriente, donde el poderío montañoso deja admirar los pueblos de Pifo, Yaruquí y el Quinche. Guápulo es un ambiente religioso desde años atrás ;pues se conserva el recuerdo de un gran devoto Fray Luis López de Solís quien iba al Santuario en romería por su gran fe, luego los milagros de la Virgen, todo sirvió como un estímulo para que la fe creciera, la misma que quedó de herencia a todos nosotros y que forma parte de nuestra cultura, y de nuestro patrimonio nacional; y gracias al turismo que nuestro país ha tenido, podemos contar con polos de desarrollo como el pueblo de Guápulo y su Santuario, siendo este atractivo un importante destino turístico.
The Sanctuary of Guapulo, has meant through history, a true monument to the faith of the people of Quito, not only for the veneration of Our Lady Virgin of Guadalupe, but also by the memory of those miracles that they still have the light of the hope of all believers on; and that in his canvases and sculptures have captured the episodes of history, indelible mark of artists of the time such as Diego de Robles; Luis from Rivera; Miguel de Santiago together with Nicolás Javier Goribar, are the authors of the splendid canvases of the Sanctuary; Juan Bautista Menacho, who he carved the altarpieces and the pulpit; thanks to all these artists, he gave as result the maximum exponent of art Quito. Begin by admiring its square where it lets itself be seen a perfect Latin cross, the whole body of the Sanctuary is formed of a single l vaulted nave, its facade, high reliefs that reveal religious images; inside its altarpieces, canvases, and all its aesthetic effervescence; that together with the story that jealously guards the Sanctuary, it prevails in this town a perfect harmony Guapulo is a bend that rests on the skirts of a hill, serving as a viewpoint to the panorama of the east, where the mountainous power lets admire the villages of Pifo, Yaruquí and el Quinche. Guapulo is a religious environment since years ago, because the memory of a great devotee Fray Luis López de Solís who went to the Shrine in pilgrimage for his great faith, then the miracles of the Virgin, everything served as a stimulus for the faith to grow, the same that was inherited to all us and that is part of our culture, and our heritage national; and thanks to the tourism that our country has had, we can count on poles of development such as the town of Guapulo and its Sanctuary, this being attractive an important tourist destination.
