In this paper, the seven types of plastic in the DMQ transfer stations were classified and categorized, a methodology was developed for the identification of the seven types, which consists of the recognition of the plastic coding, as well as the revision of the certain physical characteristics to typify them through visual recognition. The samplings were carried out in the months of November and December of 2015; the method of quartering was used to obtain an optimal sample of each station, information with which a database was generated calculating percentages by weight of each plastic and the total of sampled plastics. In this way, the project was able to identify the type of plastic with the greatest presence, the total plastic weight and the weight percentage in each station, thus establishing the values for the DMQ. Authorized managers who can recycle plastics in the city were also searched, with information obtained in the official web pages of both the MAE and the Environment Secretariat and the web pages of the managers themselves. The information generated in this project opens the doors to a better handling of plastic waste, which can achieve an optimal separation in the transfer stations and also seeks awareness on the use, recycling and separation of this material at the source.
