This thesis is about influences and interactions between the Internet and young people of Quito of ages between 14 to 23 years old. There are exposed the respective theoretical fundaments about communications and mass media. Next, there are explained the origins of Internet, its growing and evolution, the characteristics of the actual “Society of Information” and the digital breach created by the unequal possibilities of access and use of the New Technologies of Information and Communication (NTIC). There are boarded the main influences of the Internet in aspects like culture, perception, social relationships, education, language and economy. There are also analyzed the main uses of the Internet and the way how the young people apply them. Those include the electronic mail, chat, investigations, discussion groups, virtual tourism, music and games download, etc. The methodology used in this investigation was the public opinion poll, which was applied to a statistic sample of young people of the North, Centre and South of the city. There were also realized some necessary interviews and bibliography investigation. By this way, it is given a more extensive perspective of the young citizens, users and no users of Internet. This thesis is important because there haven’t done so much studies of this topic, and most of them are very general and not about Ecuador or young users. In the same way, the Internet has acquired a large popularity in our society, that’s why it is transcendental an analysis of this communication media, which in the future will surely increase its reaches. All members of society have the responsibility of orientating to an adequate use of the Internet; therefore, it will help to the knowledge and development of countries.-
