RESUMEN
Espacios públicos que ayudan a integrar su sociedad en un grupo identi?cable son en la actualidad una especie en extinción del hábitat urbano. Muchas veces se observa al comercio feriante que ocupa el espacio público desde una perspectiva negativa, el cual necesita ser reubicado, para “rescatar el espacio”. Sin embargo, este comercio existe donde está por una razón, la sociedad lo llama y necesita, sin este comercio la comunidad muere y pierde sus medios de vida. El aparente “caos” de la feria libre es un hervidero de relaciones sociales, rico en oportunidades para conocer, ser conocido, comprar y pasear con la familia. El espacio público ha cambiado, el lugar que provee de servicios y vida pública a la comunidad ahora es la calle, la calle comercial, y la calle peatonal, porque es lo único que queda, y de alguna forma hacemos que funcione. El siguiente trabajo analiza la situación actual urbana del centro histórico de Sangolquí junto con el con?icto de emplazamiento de la feria libre en las calles. Se busca mirar al problema desde una perspectiva multifuncional y multiescalar, para proponer una solución urbana y arquitectónica, que integre la realidad contextual, las necesidades de la red de actores identi?cada, que promueva la coparticipación de los sectores privado y público, y promueva la cohesión social del barrio y la manzana.

Abstract.
Public spaces that integrate social groups are currently an endangered species of urban habitat. The Open Markets that occupy public spaces in Sangolquí are often seen as a negative form of occupation. Actual urban plans propose the open market to be relocated in order to rescue the historical downtown. However, this commercial activity exists where it is for a reason, society calls for it and needs it, without trade the community dies and loses its livelihood. The apparent "chaos" of the open market provides a hotspot of social relations, rich in opportunities to meet, to be known, to buy and to have a leisure walk with the family. Local public space in Sangolquí is changed, the place that provides services and public life to the community is now the street, the commercial street, and the pedestrian street, because it is the only thing left. The following paper analyzes the current urban situation of the historic center of Sangolquí along with the occurrence of the Open Market in the streets. The objective is to look at the problem from a multifunctional and multi-scale perspective, therefore, propose a urban and architectural solution that integrates the contextual reality, the needs of the identified actor network, co-participation form the private and public sectors, and finally promote social cohesion.
